Wandering the halls of my empty home, I peek into one room and find nothing. In the next room – again nothing, no one asking me to make lunch; no one asking for a ride somewhere. The kids were gone, off to college, and I had nothing to do. I didn’t want to sit at home and wait for the grim reaper. I knew there was something I could do, but what? After doing some research I decided to take up a sport, but I didn’t want to be stressed out by sports either.
I don’t want to get home and be too tired to do anything else. No, that’s not my style. I started thinking about a sport like a golf. This didn’t seem to be a sport that was too difficult for a woman so I immediately called up my nearest golf center and signed up for a few classes.
It turns out that I love the game and I don’t think anyone else should be in the dark when it comes to playing golf, so I’ve put together a basic list of golf gear every beginner woman golfer needs. Golf is a fun sport, one that doesn’t require you to be in great shape but does give you cardiovascular exercise, especially if you walk the course.
As a new golfer, understanding everything there is to golfing and the equipment you need may seem overwhelming. The truth is you don’t really need all the stuff that you seem to see people on the course with. As a new golfer, you’ll want to buy equipment slowly. You don’t want to go overboard and purchase products you’ll never use.
A Good Set of Clubs
You do want to invest a little extra in a good set of clubs. These need to fit your height and weight. You don’t even need a full set of clubs particular need a few the basic ones which are: the driver, a putter, and at least one iron. You’ll also need one fairway wood. However, if you do have the money, then you might consider a full set, as these also come with a nice golf bag.
Balls are an essential part of a golfer’s gear. If you’re new to the game, you want lots of extra balls and tees as you’ll end up losing more than a few. When you’re a new player, the type of ball you use is not that important. Just look for balls that are less expensive. You can usually get a box of about eighteen balls for under $20.
Visit the course before you buy golf clothes. Most courses have some sort of dress code. They usually don’t allow tank tops, sleeveless tops or short shorts. Private golf courses can have stricter rules than the public courses when it comes to clothing regulations.
Not all golf clubs require golf shoes. In some cases, you can play with regular tennis shoes. However, if you do find that you like the game, you’ll want to get a good pair golf shoes as these give you better traction without tearing up the greens.
Above all, you do want to be comfortable and follow the golf course regulations. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. You can wear comfortable shorts or slacks and a polo shirt, short sleeve shirt or T-shirt. You won’t want to forget, however, a nice brimmed hat. This can be a cap or any other type of hat that is appropriate for golf. This will help protect your face from harsh sunlight.
Golfing gloves may not be considered essential but they do help new players. A good set of gloves gives you better grip and protects your hands from blisters that can occur because you’re not used to playing.
Don’t forget to take a good SPF 50 sunscreen with you. This will protect your skin from burns and from harmful rays that can damage your skin and age you prematurely.
This is the basic list of essential equipment you need for golfing. However, you will want to bring a small towel for cleaning up sweat and dirt. You also want to carry some type of container for water. Being out on the course can work up a thirst.
